Information on Skydiving in Pennsylvania

Have you ever wanted to know how it feels to fly? Parachuting describes the process of skydiving out of an airplane and coasting slightly to the earth. Skydiving allows you to believe that you're soaring, without the feeling of insecurity in the air. After a parachute is deployed, it slows the process of descent providing you with a great opportunity to enjoy the remarkable view thousands of feet in the air!

The "Tandem Skydive" is the initial jump you'll make when it pertains to skydiving. Tandem simply means you'll be connected to your instructor by a harness when you jump! Your safe, graceful landing will be provided by this expert instructor who will attach your parachute prior to take off and tell you when to deploy it during freefall. This instructor will dive with you, free fall with you and land with you. You can feel secure knowing that your life is in the hands of a FAA certified instructor with hundreds (if not thousands) of successful skydives under his belt.

Trying to figure out what altitude you will be jumping from?

The plane has to get to an altitude of 10,000 to 14,000 feet before you can exit. That means, you will be diving from almost 3 miles above the ground! This elevation cap is in place for your protection, any higher and you would require an oxygen mask to jump!

If you are anxious about the parachute releasing you can rest assured, you will be taught in depth on what to expect!

If your primary parachute fails, the second will spring into action. The back up parachute NEVER fails. It is launched using what is known as a AAD or automatic activation device that detects a low altitude without the main chute and automatically deploys to permit your safe landing. At some locations, a "static line jump" may be used for parachute release training. During this activity, you jump from the plane with a secure tether to the aircraft.

Aircraft Commonly Used In Skydiving

Light planes such as the Cessna and Otter are used most often for skydiving. Apart from recreational sport use, light aircraft are optimal for freight transport and aerial photography. Nevertheless, light sport aircraft predominately are used for jumping as they are much quicker than commercial airplanes, often taking a load of excited jumpers up every 15 to 20 minutes!

In some planes, skydivers can be at optimal height in 10 to 20 minutes. Unsurprisingly, the size of the engine determines how fast it gets up to this point. The speedier planes, like the King Airs with PT6A-20 engines, are regarded as the fastest in the world in their ascent.

These particular aircraft can hold up to 15 people, in addition to their speedy climb to optimal height. {The King Airs, however, are only the second most popular aircraft used for diving.} The most prominent double and solo engine planes for skydivers are the Havilland Canada DHC-6-Twin Otter, and the Pacific Aerospace PAC P-750 XSTOL, respectively. Typical diving planes are typically powered by pistons or turbines. Turbine and piston-powered planes are separated by a key difference: turbine planes are lighter in weight and use their fuel more efficiently. While they provide a similar horsepower as a typical piston engine, crafts with turbine engines are typically more expensive.
